Saurabh Buttan
SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Hi, I’m Saurabh.
I build software, data systems, and simulations.

I’m a software engineer who enjoys understanding how things work and turning ideas into something people can use. I’m especially drawn to graphics, physics, and interactive experiences, where I can bring technical problem-solving and creativity together.

I’ve worked on enterprise software at Franklin Templeton and Cisco, and on games through Puny Human. I also build Nubix, my own engine for exploring rendering, physics, and machine learning.

WHAT I WORK ON

A few sides of my work.

Explore skills & projects ↗
01 / ENTERPRISE & DATA

Full-stack & data systems

Enterprise software spanning user interfaces, backend services, database access, and streaming integration.

Full-stack development & APIs

At Franklin Templeton, an investment-management company, I built portfolio sharing, stock watchlists, and bulk imports in a real-time, tick-based market-data environment, using Python services and React integration.

Streaming & data integration

At Cisco, my work supported security-related data systems through Kafka streaming, cross-system data consistency, and BigQuery ETL development.

02 / ML & COMPUTER VISION

Machine learning & computer vision

Algorithms and learned models that turn visual information into something we can understand.

Model training & interaction data

Kinect-based gesture and posture research, using machine-learning models and cloud GPU notebooks.

Image processing & visual analysis

Moving-vehicle detection and shape-based text segmentation, grounded in image-processing research.

03 / GRAPHICS & ENGINES

Simulation & graphics

C++ systems for physics, real-time rendering, interactive experiences, and developer and artist tools.

Graphics optimization & tooling

Through game-development studio Puny Human, I worked with Striking Distance Studios on real-time graphics for The Callisto Protocol, including lighting, rendering fixes, and artist tools.

Physics & rendering systems

Nubix combines real-time rendering, dynamic volumetrics, PhysX and FleX simulation, and Blast destruction, with ReSTIR sampling and TensorRT-based neural reconstruction.

ABOUT ME

A little about me.

My path has taken me through enterprise applications at Franklin Templeton, data integration at Cisco, and graphics and gameplay at Puny Human. Along the way, I've taught graphics and engine development at RIT and worked on computer-vision research at IISc.

My interests include engine optimization, rendering, technical art, physics, gameplay, and design. I studied Game Design & Development at RIT after Information Science at VTU. I like building usable software and understanding its internals, whether that means improving a service call, debugging a rendering pass, or integrating a physics simulation. My published computer-vision research and teaching experience are part of that background, alongside my professional software work.

I also hold an MBA from Sofia University, which complements my engineering background with a business perspective. It helps me connect technical decisions to user needs and business goals, weigh costs and trade-offs, and prioritize work that delivers value.
